REOPENING IN 2026
Oyster Estate (Formerly The Greenporter)
Oyster Estate is currently undergoing a complete renovation and rebrand from its former identity as The Greenporter Hotel, with an anticipated opening in late 2026. Because the property is not yet open, much of what follows is based on my experience with The Greenporter, which occupied the same location in downtown Greenport.
Before closing for renovations, The Greenporter was one of the better value hotels in Greenport. Located on Front Street within walking distance of the harbor, restaurants, and shops, it offered a convenient downtown location at a lower price point than many of the village’s boutique hotels. The outdoor pool was another advantage, particularly given how few hotels in downtown Greenport offer one.
The transformation into Oyster Estate appears to be a significant step up in both design and amenities. Plans include a redesigned courtyard pool and patio, along with a cocktail bar and dining venue called Fortune Favors. The project is being led by Blue Flag Capital, the hospitality group behind several well-known properties on Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.
The biggest question is where pricing ultimately lands once the property reopens. If Oyster Estate manages to maintain the value-oriented appeal of The Greenporter while delivering on the planned upgrades, it could become one of the more interesting places to stay in Greenport.
