I like getting up early and heading out to explore when I travel, which means I’m always searching for a good breakfast before a day of sightseeing. During my time in San Salvador, most of my mornings were spent in the San Benito and Zona Rosa neighborhoods, where I found everything from artisan bakeries and specialty coffee shops to some of the city’s best brunch spots.

Roots Food Artisans
My very first breakfast in San Salvador ended up being at Roots Food Artisans, and it quickly became one of my favorite spots that I returned to several times during my trip. Roots combines the atmosphere of a specialty coffee shop with one of the best breakfast menus in San Benito.
While they do offer a traditional Salvadoran breakfast, Roots leans heavily into international brunch favorites. The menu includes eggs Benedict, red or green shakshuka, Lebanese eggs, and other dishes that feel more like something you would find in a trendy café in Mexico City or Miami than a typical breakfast restaurant in San Salvador.
Whether you’re stopping in for a quick coffee or settling in for a leisurely brunch, Roots works well for both. If you’re visiting on a weekend, they also serve mimosas, sangria, and wine, making it an excellent spot to ease into the day before exploring San Salvador.

LUMA PanaderÃa Experimental
LUMA PanaderÃa Experimental is one of the best bakeries in San Salvador and an easy recommendation for breakfast or brunch in Zona Rosa. The bakery built its reputation on naturally fermented sourdough bread, which remains the foundation of many of its most popular dishes.
The menu features a variety of sandwiches and open-faced tostadas served on house-made bread, including the prosciutto & egg and the salmon Benedict. Beyond breakfast, you’ll also find chilaquiles, pizza, pastries, and other baked goods, along with a full coffee bar serving specialty coffee drinks. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick pastry and cappuccino or settling in for a leisurely brunch, LUMA is one of the best morning spots in the neighborhood.

The Green House
While Green House is known for its health-conscious menu, don’t let that fool you into thinking that’s all it offers. Yes, there are booster smoothies, fresh juices, protein bowls, and plenty of lighter options, but the breakfast menu has enough variety to appeal to just about anyone.
I’m not usually big into restaurants that market themselves primarily as health food spots, but Green House ended up being one of my favorite breakfast restaurants in San Benito.
If you can look past the fruit bowls and egg white omelets, you’ll find dishes like Spanish huevos rotos, which I thoroughly enjoyed, along with a creative take on shakshuka served in either a red or green sauce. The menu also features eight different toast options, including avocado, serrano ham, and tomato & bacon, making it easy to find something that fits your mood.
What really sets Green House apart, however, is the setting. Tables are spread throughout a lush garden filled with trees and greenery, creating one of the most relaxing brunch atmospheres in San Salvador.

Delikat
Delikat is a charming restaurant with a European-inspired menu and Mediterranean influences. While many breakfast spots in San Salvador focus on traditional Salvadoran dishes or trendy brunch fare, Delikat feels more like the type of café you might stumble across in Southern Europe.
The breakfast menu isn’t extensive, but it includes several variations of eggs Benedict, crepes, French toast, and a rotating selection of pastries. The French toast skewers are one of the more unique offerings, though the icing makes them quite sweet. The strawberry crepes lean sweet as well, but are balanced by fresh fruit.
For me, however, the pastries and desserts are the main reason to visit Delikat. The blueberry and strawberry tarts are light enough to enjoy with a morning coffee, while the passion fruit and coconut tart makes an excellent ending to brunch. If you’re a chocolate lover, the white chocolate & coffee mousse or dark chocolate mousse might convince you to order another coffee and linger a little longer on the tree-lined patio.

Biscuit Factory
Biscuit Factory began in 1999 as a bakery specializing in traditional Salvadoran breads made from family recipes. Over time, the business expanded into coffee, and today it has one of the most extensive coffee menus in the San Benito area.
In addition to classic espresso drinks, you’ll find creative options like a vanilla spice latte, mint mochaccino, and white chocolate & macadamia latte. Many of the drinks are also available iced, alongside frappes, shakes, and other specialty creations.
What sets Biscuit Factory apart from many coffee shops in San Salvador is that it also serves alcohol. You can order an Irish Coffee, a Carajillo, or even add Bailey’s to many of the menu’s coffee drinks.
To accompany your coffee, there is a wide selection of pastries, baked goods, and breakfast dishes, making Biscuit Factory a good choice whether you’re looking for a quick morning coffee or a more substantial breakfast. While most visitors come in the morning, the restaurant remains open throughout the day and also serves lunch and dinner.
