Besito Mexican Restaurant is another favorite spot among locals. It is from the same team behind the other extremely popular restaurants In The Shed and The Farm Italy and is more an upscale Mexican experience rather than a taqueria.
Restauranteur John Tunney opened Besito in 2006 after many years of travel to Mexico and studying the cuisine. And now he brings specialties like fresh tableside guacamole, enchilada suizas, and a variety of tacos and ceviche. And you are sure to find something you like on the large margarita menu. But the best time to come might be for the popular Sunday Brunch, with chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, and tres leches French toast.
In addition to the Huntington restaurant, there are also locations in Roslyn and West Islip.

The Shed

The Shed is a popular restaurant with American comfort food served in rustic beachy atmosphere. But one of the biggest draws here is the brunch served every day. Whether you choose the biscuit Benedict, the avocado toast with sunny side up eggs, or other options you are unlikely to be disappointed. Plus, there is a list of some pretty good burgers, sandwiches and salads. But if you ask me, the best item is the chicken and waffles with habanero honey.
While Huntington is their original location, they have opened other spots on Long Island and now even the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut.
Munday's
Munday’s is a luncheonette that opens at 8am every day and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It originally opened in 1923 as Guckenberg’s, making it one of Long Island’s oldest luncheonettes. And it remains a favorite for its old-fashioned decor that features a black and white checkered floor, dark wooden booths, and counter seating like you’d find in an old school diner.
It’s also famous for having an old-time soda fountain and going all out with holiday decorations.
While they serve all three meals, Munday’s all-day breakfast featuring omelets, pancakes, and French toast is perhaps the biggest draw. But you can’t go wrong with the carving board sandwiches, where you can choose from turkey, roast beef, corned beef, or pastrami.
Hatch
If you’re in the mood for something different, head to Hatch for breakfast. The menu includes some different takes on classic dishes. For example, the Charleston Benedict is made with southern fried chicken on a scallion cheddar waffle. And the Hashtag Eggs & Tots is a heaping mound of hash browns and tater tots, topped with cheese sauce, bacon, sausage, and eggs.
There is a whole section dedicated to pancakes, featuring styles called Blueberry Danish, Cinnamon Roll, Pineapple Upside Down. And if you can’t decide on one style, you can order a pancake flight and sample three flavors.
Hatch also has a location in Fort Lauderdale, in case you find yourself down in the Sunshine State.
Toast & Co.
Toast & Co is another great casual breakfast restaurant in Huntington. You’ll quickly notice that the staff knows the customers, as there is a good base of regulars.
I’m a fan of the skillets, such as the Irish Man (made with corned beef hash, potato hash, bangers, and two eggs). There’s also a selection of Benedicts, French Toast, and a “Create Your Own Avocado Toast.”
Stella Blue
Rob & Ann Koopman grew up going to Grateful Dead shows. And so, this is the theme they wanted to create when they opened Stella Blue. This is apparent from the moment you pull into the parking lot, where you will see a large skeleton and artwork on the side of the building showing Jerry Garcia and dancing bears.
There is a large assortment of breakfast sandwiches, including “The Mick” with bacon, egg, cheddar, and home fries. They also serve build your own energy bowls, steel cut oatmeal bowls, and have a large vegan/vegetarian menu.

Over Easy
Opening in August 2023, Over Easy is the newest breakfast restaurant in Huntington. The menu is a little smaller than some places but has most of the basics and they also have a specials menu. The Eggs in Purgatory resembles Shakshuka. The Breakfast Power Bowl is a healthy option made with Quinoa, farro, roasted Brussell sprouts, and poached eggs. Or build your own omelet.
But if you are with a group, and want something fun to order for the table, try the shareable OE Breakfast Fondue. It has French toast nuggets, bananas, and strawberries served with a maple butter or Nutella dipping sauce.
Bakeries, Cafes, & Bagels
Buttercooky Bakery & Cafe
Buttercooky Bakery opened its doors in 1962 in nearby Floral Park. It is now run by the 3rd generation of the Borgognone family, and they have expanded to Manhasset and Huntington. It is well-regarded for a variety of traditional European confections as well as fresh baked cookies, pastries, pies, and custom cakes.
While croissants, Danishes, or muffins remain popular for a quick breakfast, the Huntington location also offers a small breakfast and lunch menu. You can order egg sandwiches, avocado toast, and paninis on their homemade breads. Or they have omelets, crepes, and a long list of lunch sandwiches.
Duck Island Bread Co
Duck Island Bread Company is an artisan bakery deeply rooted in European traditions. It is renowned for its variety of handcrafted breads, pastries, and other baked goods. The breads are naturally leavened, made by hand in small batches and then fermented over hours.
While items can vary daily, you can expect to find a selection of breads that include Baguette, Sourdough, and Challah. Other specialty breads are made on specific days of the week, and you can check the website for the schedule.
In addition to the breads, they offer sweets like cookies, scones, and brownies. But for me, stopping for a coffee and croissant is the perfect breakfast on the go – except for the rare occasion when I decide to go all out with the cinnamon bun.

Village Bagel might not have the best bagels on Long Island, but they don’t have the worst either. And isn’t a decent bagel always a good option? This is a great spot to grab a quick breakfast on the go.
